This was one of the projects that I've done during my product design course. The objective was to source an object from the past and undertake an analysis of its design, manufacturing technique, intended demographic, country of origin, historical context etc. Using my knowledge of current manufacturing processes, sustainability and contemporary aesthetics, I was expected to redesign a past object to make it contemporary.
What is Plante?
Plante is a smart planter. It aims to improve upon gardening in an urban environment. The use of hydroponic technology means that soil is not required, eliminating mess as well as possible pests. There is a built in water tank which automatically waters the plant every several hours. Excess water passes through the growing medium and back into the reservoir at the base where it can be reused.
